12 Traits of a Leader (part 4)

A couple weeks ago I contacted my friend Kimberly Joy Kreuger to see if she would want to collaborate with me on a project. She immediately agreed and the result is a multi part series in leadership development.

For those of you that don’t know Kimberly, she is an incredible woman. She is a wife, a mother of 12, yes I said 12, a Life Coach, author, public speaker and has an incredible story of survival and endurance.

In this series, Kimberly provides a lot of great information on what it takes to be a leader. Whether you are leading a team, your family or just yourself, this series will most definitely be worth you time!

What will we do with what we’ve been given?

This is from my study this morning.  After reading it, I knew I had to post it so I wouldn’t forget it.  I hope you like it too.

Do you know what God created you for? Do you know what your destiny is?

In order to fulfill your destiny, you must recognize the gifts God has given you to use. These are the cards you are dealt in life. They include the things you can’t control: your parents, your nationality, your race, your native language. They also include your SHAPE: your spiritual gifts, heart, abilities, personality, and experiences. These are the things that make you uniquely you.

Now, you are not responsible for the gifts God didn’t give you. In other words, if you are not artistically gifted, you are not expected to paint pictures like Rembrandt. But you are responsible for the ones he did give you.

When you get to Heaven, God isn’t going to compare you with anyone else, but he will compare you with yourself. What did you do with what you were given? What could you have done if you had trusted God a little bit more? Romans 14:12 says, “Each of us will give an account of ourselves to God” (NIV).

Esther had three assets that God gave her to use to fulfill her destiny. She was intelligent, beautiful, and she had an attractive personality. Because of these qualities, “Esther won the favor of everyone who saw her …. She won [the king’s] favor and approval more than any of the other virgins. So he set a royal crown on her head and made her queen” (Esther 2:15b, 17).

God gave Esther these gifts for a purpose. God has given you gifts for a purpose. And just like Esther, you have a responsibility to be a good steward of those gifts — not for selfish uses but for the good of others. Your gifts are not for your benefit. God gave you gifts for the benefit of other people.

A Great Quote on Winning and Life

“Yesterday’s home runs don’t win today’s games.”
-Babe Ruth

And I suppose the converse is also true. Yesterday’s errors don’t lose today’s game. Therefore, I believe the best that we/I can do, is to live in the moment.  Play today’s game for today.

Have a great day!

WHY?

This is an incredible story.  It will only take 2 minutes.

Uncover your “Why” and there is nothing that will stop you.

Have a great day!

Making it FUN!!!

If you have been reading my blog you know that I have always struggled with my weight. (see previous post)  Even worse, since I stopped playing baseball after college, I have never been able to find anything to keep me fit that didn’t feel like work!

I have tried work out videos, biking, roller blades, treadmills, elliptical machines, running, sprinting, playing basketball, yoga and more.  The results were always one of two things.

  1. I would have to force myself to show up and complete my work out  (or)
  2. I loved it but It didn’t feel like I was doing enough therefore I would dismiss it from being a real workout.

Last week, that all changed.  On a recommendation from a counselor, a friend of mine needed to purchase and install a heavy bag.  The instructions were to hit it 3 days a week in order to release frustrations.  I helped install it, then took a few shots at it myself.  WOW!  It was like someone flipped a switch.  I was instantly in love.  So much so that I hit craigslist and found a 6′ heavy leather kickboxing bag of my own.  Next, I hit the ap store and found a killer heavy bag workout.  Next thing you know, I am addicted! Seriously addicted!  Hitting the bag, music kickin’, an ap from itunes telling me what to do, sweat pouring.  After the bag I have so much energy, I jump rope, do some push ups, pull ups and even run a little on the treadmill.  Basically a boxing workout.  The odd part is that because it is fun, I want to do it vs feeling like I have to do it.

Admittedly it is early, but I can’t image stopping.  I feel way too good!  So the moral of the story?  If you don’t love it, keep searching. There WILL be something out there that you will enjoy!

Ready for the irony???  6 years ago I had bought a portable heavy bag.  It only required that I fill the base with water.  It sat, unfilled, in the corner since I purchased it.  Imagine, what if I had discovered my love for this 6 years ago!  The moral of the story is try everything and dismiss nothing until you know what you don’t currently know.

Have a great day!
