Making it FUN!!!

If you have been reading my blog you know that I have always struggled with my weight. (see previous post)  Even worse, since I stopped playing baseball after college, I have never been able to find anything to keep me fit that didn’t feel like work!

I have tried work out videos, biking, roller blades, treadmills, elliptical machines, running, sprinting, playing basketball, yoga and more.  The results were always one of two things.

  1. I would have to force myself to show up and complete my work out  (or)
  2. I loved it but It didn’t feel like I was doing enough therefore I would dismiss it from being a real workout.

Last week, that all changed.  On a recommendation from a counselor, a friend of mine needed to purchase and install a heavy bag.  The instructions were to hit it 3 days a week in order to release frustrations.  I helped install it, then took a few shots at it myself.  WOW!  It was like someone flipped a switch.  I was instantly in love.  So much so that I hit craigslist and found a 6′ heavy leather kickboxing bag of my own.  Next, I hit the ap store and found a killer heavy bag workout.  Next thing you know, I am addicted! Seriously addicted!  Hitting the bag, music kickin’, an ap from itunes telling me what to do, sweat pouring.  After the bag I have so much energy, I jump rope, do some push ups, pull ups and even run a little on the treadmill.  Basically a boxing workout.  The odd part is that because it is fun, I want to do it vs feeling like I have to do it.

Admittedly it is early, but I can’t image stopping.  I feel way too good!  So the moral of the story?  If you don’t love it, keep searching. There WILL be something out there that you will enjoy!

Ready for the irony???  6 years ago I had bought a portable heavy bag.  It only required that I fill the base with water.  It sat, unfilled, in the corner since I purchased it.  Imagine, what if I had discovered my love for this 6 years ago!  The moral of the story is try everything and dismiss nothing until you know what you don’t currently know.

Have a great day!
