My first Vow Against Mediocrity – My “part time” Fortune

When-mediocrity-is-intolerable-Kent-Healy

Several years ago when I was in the mortgage banking industry, I was invited by a client of mine to meet him for coffee at Starbucks.  I gladly agreed and thought it was a very nice gesture.  In my mind I thought it would be really nice to get to know
him better and this seemed like the perfect opportunity.  The day of our meeting I arrived and I saw him sitting at a table with another person.  I walked over, introduced myself to his friend and sat down.  What happened next was completely unexpected!  It turns out that I wasn’t invited out of kindness, I was a prospect for a network marketing company!  For the next 45 minutes I got double teamed about their “opportunity”.  It was one of the most uncomfortable experiences of my career. Unfortunately, that experience kept me from being open to the industry of network marketing for many years.

Because I was pretty good at my job and I knew a lot of people, it seemed that my name made it to the top of every new Network Marketers “Prospect” list.  But now I knew their “game”and had my defenses up, they weren’t going to “get” me into their “Pyramid Scheme”!

It took many years but one day a dear friend of mine, Michelle Poe, broke through my defenses.  She sent me a video link to an ABC Primetime Report, you know the program that features John Quinones.  When I watched the report for the first time, I had no clue what they were talking about!  I watched it several more times just so I didn’t seem so stupid when Michelle called me back to talk about it.  (even that didn’t help – I still had no clue).  When she finally called me back, I was able to put 2+2 together and the first words out of my mouth were “Oh NO!, Not you too!”.

A few days later my Dad had a he
art attack and being the caring friend that Michelle is, she called me back with a friend of hers, a cardiologist from Sioux Falls, SD named Dr. Mark Gordon.  She told me that she really cared about me and wanted me to know how important it was, given my families heart disease history, that I immediately start taking the product called Protandim.  Reluctantly I did.

For the next 9 months She’d call me and I’d argue with her, she’d email.. I’d argue…She’d text, I’d argue. This went on for about 9 months until I witnessed some people in my life, including her, having great results from both a health and financial perspective. Since my arguments were no longer valid and if
everything she told me was real I wouldn’t have wanted to miss out, so I decided to take a closer look.  I’m glad I did!

I’m proud to say that since Feb. 1st of 2012 I have been a successful network marketer.  I’m proud to say that because the industry and some of the people that I’ve met along the way have given me my life back.  Being an active distributor (meaning I actually work) has allowed me to meet some of the most amazing people from around the US and Canada.  They say that you become the sum of the 5 people that you associate with most, if that is the case I will become generous, kind, loving, supportive, philanthropic, spiritual, happy, fun, caring, healthy, wealthy and have the power to positively change a countless number of lives around the world.

I am telling you this story because although I am successful inmy network marketing business, it is one area of my life that I have accepted mediocrity. I have put in “just enough” effort so I could do this work full time.  I have done just enough so I could “be comfortable”, have a modest house, a reliable car and not have the stress or pressure that I used to associate with making money or being successful.

From this point forward I vow to leave my old ways of thinking behind.  Being successful does NOT mean I can’t do something I love.  Making money does NOT mean that I have to have put off having fun until I reach a certain goal.  From now on, I will allow happiness, love and prosperity into my life and I will allow them to come together, to co exist.  From now on I will vow to no longer be mediocre!
