About

Me and my boys

My name is Kevin Messerschmidt. I have lived in the small town of East Troy, WI all my life. I am the proud father of one incredible and energetic 12 year old boy named Ethan and the coolest dog in the world named Norm. About 4 years ago I was married and enjoyed a very successful career as an account executive with a regional mortgage banker.

Form the outside, it may have looked like I had it all, cars, money, a big house, and the perfect marriage.  Maybe I did but it sure never felt like it to me.  For 10 of the 15 years I was in the mortgage banking industry, I hated my job.  I never felt inspired and the only certainty was that there was no certainty, things were always changing and most of the time not for the better.  The house, cars and “toys” were nothing more than a reminder to me that I had the money to buy all the things that I wanted but no time to actually enjoy them or my family.

Then with little warning my life took a dramatic turn.  The company that I had spent the most successful 12 years of my career with went out of business and my marriage of 11 years, which suffered in part due to all the long hours and stress of my job, was over.  I was devastated.  There is an old saying, “be careful what you wish for because you might just get it all” and while I never wished for the divorce, I did wish for something to happen to my job, so I would have an excuse to move on to something more inspiring.

There’s another old saying that says, “everything happens for a reason” and after living my life for the last 3 years, I couldn’t agree more.  Looking back I can say that my life was out of balance, my priorities misaligned and my life had no purpose.

Today, my life looks drastically different than it did 4 years ago.  I’m a completely different person, in a different line of work, and have a new found perspective, passion and purpose for my life.  The lessons that I learned along the way inspired me to start an empowerment coaching practice so I can help others avoid the mistakes and take advantage of the things I’ve done right. You can look me up at http://www.afreelifenow.com.

With that said, I want be very clear about one thing. Though I have learned many lessons and am fully capable of empowering others, my life is not perfect.  I still have many areas of my life that need improving and this blog is about putting myself on display, taking the actions necessary to improve my life and hopefully teaching and inspiring you to do the same.

In October of 2015, I read a book titled “The Miracle Morning” by Hal Elrod and although I was already practicing many of the techniques that he teaches in his book, I was inspired by his story of living up to his potential and beating mediocrity. beating mediocrity?  That was an entirely new concept to me.  I have read countless books on inspiration, business and motivation.  In fact, my ex wife used to get extremely frustrated with me because I’d read the books, learn the information, know exactly what to do, yet I NEVER took action.  For much of my adult life I was acting like a mediocre person!  I was not been living up to my fullest potential.  I quickly became obsessed by the idea of beating mediocrity and in doing so, created this blog.

For the next 12 months I am going to put my life and efforts on display.  People may or may not follow my journey and that’s o.k..  Although my dream would be to inspire you to take your own 12 month pledge to fight mediocrity, this blog is for me.  It will serve as my proof that by taking all out action to a well thought out plan, I can do, be, and co-create the life that God intended me to live.
